Our youngest son's home was bursting with family as we enjoyed a Christmas Eve buffet. Little One had just gone to bed with exhaustion when we heard the sounds of fire sirens and a truck coming near. Assuming the worst (maybe the luminaries had caught on fire?) we rushed to the door and what did our wondering eye behold but Santa high up on the hook and ladder truck, ho-ho-ho-ing and tossing candy to the children excitedly following his truck down the street. Us old children and the younger were totally delighted. Unfortunately Little One slept through it all. And we're thankful it wasn't a real fire.
Since we had children around our Christmas table again this year it was necessary to celebrate Jesus' birthday with a cake and singing "happy birthday" to the king of kings. This was the best I could come up with, and sing we did, and then enjoyed red velvet cupcakes, fit for a king!
We later enjoyed a beautiful piano concert including a song of bells for Christmas ... complete with bell ringing by little one and her big cousin (who is seen here coaching her on the details of ringing a bell!) One group leaves today and tomorrow the "sidebar" little girls arrive!

It sounds like you had a great time. Too bad Little One was already asleep and missed Santa. Have fun with the crew who arrives soon.

Podso,
ReplyDeleteI adore all ...sirens, Santa, the Birthday party for Baby Jesus...but my favorite has to be the concert given by your grandchildren! My father's side of the family is musically gifted. My MoMa used to dress us in frills and black patten shoes for Christmas Eve. What precious memories in the making at your home this Christmas!
Fondly,
Pat
Sounds like a wonderful holiday evening. Santa used to fly over my Mammaw's house ringing sleigh bells (he was actually in a radio station helicopter :) but when you are young and wide-eyed with the magic of Christmas, it sure sounded like Santa in his sleigh. Blessings to you in the new year. Tammy
ReplyDeleteOh, Dotsie!! I hate Little One missed the firetruck Santa! But, maybe it was for the best... they get so excited, it is hard to rest! Your birthday cake presentation was fabulous!! We had a little cake and candles and sang Happy Birthday, Jesus, too.... such special times. Christmas through the eyes of our grandchildren is one of the greatest blessings I have ever known. Enjoy your round two of this wonderful season! I'll be looking forward to hearing more.

ps - you are so observant! Littlest Man WAS napping when the porch photos started... Noni was quite sad about that. But, as soon as he woke, I forced everyone back to the porch!! LOL! He couldn't miss out on his first Christmas Porch Picture! ;)
How fun to see Santa! Your little birthday party for Jesus looks wonderful, so glad to know you had a great Christmas.

What a fun treat to see Santa on the fire engine! So much better than the fear of a real fire. I love the red velvet cupcakes for the Birth of Christ. Sounds like a wonderful event! Have a great New Year too.
