The Wall of Grace

When we were working on "freshening up" our den and doing some reorganizing, I found myself with some wall hangings that were an odd bunch looking for a home. I was not ready to get rid of them as, when I studied them, I realized each one told part of our family history.

I decided to take them all up to the blank wall in the upstairs hallway. Then I wondered if I needed to do that fancy laying them out first, with measuring and pencil lines, or could I just "wing it"-- start hanging, and just see how it all turned out?

I started with an old mirror I had almost taken to GW. And the display grew from there (and there's even more now than when I snapped this picture.)

These are the instructions for family members who view it: put your face in the mirror and see yourself surrounded with parts of our life story. Each hanging represents a part of our life, and is a reminder of God's faithfulness to us.

I've decided to name it "The Wall of Grace."

  5. Podso,
Great minds...we're getting ready to do a similar family wall in the East Wing On Crooked Creek. I adore the mirror and your naming it the wall of grace!!! Thanks for inspiring me to get the rest of the photos into frames!!!

THIS I LOVE!! What a beautiful tribute to the work of God in our tangible lives - and so creatively represented! Yes, I have many things I dare not part with because of the type of memorial stone they are of seasons and people. Sort of like when God instructed Israel to set up stones and make a memorial. In our lives today, that can be a trinket, a hand-made something - framed art, photos, oh- so much. Surrounding ourselves with these vignettes of His victory in our lives truly makes a house a home.

    Joy!

  8. I love your gallery of family history Podso. I never measure anything. Just eyeball and slap it up there. I like a hodge podge look anyway. Your Wall of Grace certainly tells a story and looks great. Have a fabulous Friday. Tammy

  9. This is a lovely idea. I'm going to my son's in Ontario on Saturday. I was wondering what to bring him, and now I think I may bring him some precious things for a 'family wall'.

For a wall where you just winged it, everything looks nicely displayed.

  16. That looks wonderful! I've always like a collage on the wall. I have a small one in the bedroom. And the mirror in the middle for loved ones to picture themselves there among family is so sweet. Love it!
