"I've been somewhere"

As we drove away from our friends' house I turned to the Gardener and said,
"I feel like I've been somewhere." A friend told me that once after a birthday
party at my house that I had made as special as I could. I loved what the phrase says
and have used it since when something is really memorable.
Our friends had invited us and another couple for dinner.
And she pulled out all the stops, or at least all the good china, crystal, and silver.
It was a very delicious meal, beautifully served.
Our hostess paid attention to every detail. The other guest also loves
a nice table, and together we noticed and appreciated everything
we saw and tasted. Such a fuss is certainly not necessary
and I enjoy casual dining as much as anyone,
but once in awhile it's really nice to pull out all the special things
for a good meal and to celebrate friendship.
What a great evening it was!

Maybe the "icing on the cake" was when she served tea
in her mother's old Hall teapot. It was very similar to my own mother's teapot.
All three of us women have lost our moms in recent years, and somehow
seeing that teapot just touched my heart in a special way.

  1. The teapot was indeed the special part of the evening, the memories touched all of you and that's lovely. I also agree its nice to spoil guests...at least those who appreciate it. My kids are not for real napkins so I gave up on those with them!

So happy you and your husband and friends had a great time.

  2. Sounds like it was a lovely evening. Sometimes it is nice to do something out of the ordinary that feels really special and even indulgent. The fact that your friend indulged all of you and paid attention to such detail is proof of your bond and truly a gift. It's the simple things that bring us pleasure, like the memory of a teapot that you all shared. Have a wonderful day.

  4. Oh sometimes there is nothing better then to be treated to such a lovely evening! I LOVE a beautifully set table but it just seems as if it is done so seldom anymore. Her's was beautiful! Sometimes I still like being the giver of such an evening too, but I am lucky if I pull it off once a year, lol. Glad you enjoyed it!

  9. That's an interesting phrase Dotsie, one I'm going to think on for a while as I do like the explanation you gave for using it. A dinner invitation that includes good china, crystal etc. does make for a memorable visit and make one feel special.

  14. Oh, Dotsie, this is so sweet - isn't it awesome when someone goes to that trouble just for us? It IS, indeed, very special. I LOVE that phrase now too: "I feel as though I have been somewhere." How appropo!

I think your mothers would appreciate your sentiments about the teapot. It sure is a pretty one. Hugs. ♥

  15. What a fun way to share your joy about this visit with your friend! Indeed, after all the effort she put into the occasion, and how special it made you feel, truly a visit like that couldn't compare with a 5-star restaurant, because you know your hostess poured her heart into making you feel special! Enjoyed my visit with you today!

  16. Oooh... lovely. I was treated to that sort of evening this past Wednesday, and it was strictly a girl time. We ate beautiful quiche and a gorgeous baby green salad with mandarin oranges, strawberries, and walnuts dressed with raspberry vinaigrette and tiny muffins. It was really special. Isn't it wonderful when someone goes to that kind of trouble for you. :)
