I was so pleased when I found this valentine my father
sent my mom. Hallmark 1944.
His sweet message inside reminded me of the deep love they had for
each other, that always was evident to us children.
I remember how much we loved Valentine's day as kids.
We gave a valentine to each one in our class. But the best part was
decorating shoeboxes with hearts and tinfoil or tissue paper.
The slot in the top was important.
They became mailboxes that each child dropped their valentine into.
How fun to take it home and open the valentines!
Oh. yes, shoe boxes were very valuable in February. I'd love to see a photo of some of those splendid creations! Your mother's Valentine is pretty and your father spared no expense...Hallmark! 💕
ReplyDeleteThe old Hallmark card is beautiful Dotsie. I have to laugh, because in Canada we decorated paper lunch bags for our cards to be delivered in class. I'm not sure if they do this any more but I do recall the teachers saying it wasn't a popularity thing and we were to give to every person in the class.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
How wonderful to have the old Valentine for your mom from your dad...but how truly wonderful it was that you grew up in witness to such love. Sadly the same couldn't be said for my parents. We didn't get to decorate shoe boxes to collect our valentines, but sure sounds fun. I LOVED getting those little Valentines as a little girl though. Hope you have a good day!
ReplyDeleteSuch a treasure from your parents... both the card and the lesson and legacy of their love. YES, I loved making those decorated boxes! So fun. Hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day, Dotsie! blessings and hugs ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have such a treasure, Dotsie! The greatest gift parents can give to their children is to love each other. Happy Valentine's day to you and the Gardener. ♥
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure! Happy valentines!
ReplyDeleteA sweet Valentine memory from the past. I remember the Valentine boxes at school, too. It was such a fun day.
ReplyDeleteA very sweet treasure for sure. I do remember the joy of putting and receiving Valentines in those boxes and bags...
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that you have valentines your father gave your mother.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet thing to find!
ReplyDeleteI save the cards from my husband, and notes he has written me. I want my kids to have them when we are gone. I think it will mean a lot to them, like this one does for you.
Yes, this is a darling vintage Valentine. I also remember being very excited about Valentine's Day when I was in grade school...memories of decorating plain brown lunch bags with red and white paper doilies and construction paper still swirl around in my head. Looking at the Valentine cards today that you buy for kids just do not compare to the ones back then. Just like everything else, they are so commercialized with the cartoon characters of today slapped all over them. I hope your V-Day was a happy one...and yes, I am thrilled with the new floors...it was like Christmas, my birthday and Valentine's Day for the rest of my life...considering the expense...LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure! So sweet. :)
