reminded her of my mom. Sure enough, it was a rose that was at my mom's
bedside her last days. It stayed gorgeous until she died, and we drank in its beauty.
It's just four years ago at this time that I was at mom's bedside
each day as she made her transition to heaven.
2. After affirming my cousin's thought on IG, I did a few errands,
including a trip to Ald* where just inside the door was
a huge bunch of beautiful roses for sale, including some
the color my mother loved. I grabbed a bunch at only $3
and considered it a smile from God.
3. Earlier in the morning I glanced out the window
and counted a record-breaking eight deer strolling
and grazing through our back yard. We usually see seven,
and sometimes wonder if they don't just live in our woods.
4. I've been hooked on PGTips tea for years and have a cup every afternoon.
The Gardener used to bring boxes of it home from his regular trips to England.
But now it's easier to find it here. Except for today when
it wasn't at the shop where I usually find it. They did have this Yorkshire tea.
I wonder if you British readers recognize this box or brand.
I've had my first cup and it's pretty good;
I'd say a bit similar.
5. My favorite day of the week is the one where I volunteer in
my granddaughter's 2nd grade classroom. They've been doing a
unit on Fairy Tales and have spent some time exploring different
(some very different) versions of Cinderella. Long ago, when
I was 17, I won a talent contest doing a rendition of
"Prinderella and the Cince," which included acting out the punctuation.
So, without the costume, I read my version in class today and they loved it.
But, by the way, they did not know what a talent contest is.
Wonderful five ... the roses and your mom .... sweet memories and sweet message. I'd love to see deer in my backyard, but living in the city that isn't going to happen. I do see a opossum walking across on occasion. I've never tried the Yorkshire tea. I'm making a list of teas to try, but first I have to use up the "boxes" I have ... yikes! Love your story of Prinderella and the Cince! I know you have a great time in your granddaughter's classroom.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that a beautiful rose can trigger so many amazing memories. It was a joy to see the deer wandering around in your garden. Yorkshire tea is well know brand here and is one that I often buy. What fun to be part of your Grandaughters education. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteGod's smiles are so sweet... and so comforting. The rose was so beautiful... just like mother and daughter. LOVE that photo of you in your Prinderella! Cute as a button!! And, I love that you were able to were able to read that same version to your granddaughter's class. The circle of life. =) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteLovely to see the roses, and that you had your smile from heaven. Yorkshire tea is well known over here. It's specially blended to go with the water in Yorkshire. There's a lot of limestone in the area, which gives the local water a distinctive 'tang'.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful coloured rose and how wonderful to find some more whilst shopping. That sort of apricot pink colour was my Mum's favorite too. Yes, Yorkshire tea is well known over here:)
ReplyDeleteLovely Five on Friday. The rose is beautiful. The colour is really pretty. So glad it brought back good memories of your Mum.
ReplyDeleteHappy Five on Friday!
I love the beautiful color of your roses, Dotsie. Even more the meaning to you. I enjoy Yorkshire tea occasionally when I want a more potent cup of tea. I usually have Twinning's Earl Grey as it's my favorite. Your grands must love you helping out at their school. How nice to live close enough to do so.♥
ReplyDeleteAs others have said, yes, Yorkshire Tea is well known here! I am sure that it will be delicious, enjoy your cuppa. How lovely that your cousin said that about the beautiful rose and that you then found some more, that is lovely. Enjoy the deer watching this weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely delicate shade of pink rose and I'm glad it has meaning for you. I drink Yorkshire Gold when I want a good quality plain black tea.
ReplyDeleteAwesome fives.
ReplyDeleteI have purchased tips at World M*rket and also online for cheap in the past.
Will ask my daughter's mother in law - she's from Yorkshire.
LOVE your pic - and what a funny read that must have been. (Such talent!)
Your posts that were right before your mother's home going were some of the first I read on your blog. They were beautiful and drew me here.
ReplyDeleteI like PG Tips, and Yorkshire is really good, too. My favorite Yorkshire, though is Yorkshire Gold!
Happy weekend, Dotsie!
Last picture is very cute... you are looking beautiful in the picture..

Yum, we like Yorkshire tea. Lovely roses. What a cute blog header.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful weekend,
Brenda
That delicate pink shade is a favorite of mine, too, and how like a smile from heaven to find the bunch in your store. I haven't heard of Prinderella and the Cince for years! Fun costume.
ReplyDeleteLovely how we remember family, especially through flowers. Such a gorgeous rose. Love the photo of you, sounds like you had fun. B x
ReplyDeleteI do recognise the tea but I prefer coffee! That rose is very special indeed. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeletePrinderella and the Cince, was that a Victor Borge skit? We used to love watching him. I'm going to have to keep watching for flowers at Aldi. They did have primroses the other day and I picked up a purple and a yellow, each only .99. Cheap shot of cheer for my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo of YOU! And what a fun day you must have had. I ended my post with an old photo! (older than yours, that's for sure!) Sweet hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteGreat post, how pretty the roses are. Would have loved to have seen you acting out the punctuation.
ReplyDeleteWonderful memories in this beautiful post. The roses you found were a gift from above. I remember doing some of those mixed up fairly-tale ... there's a word for that transposing letter thing, what the heck is it? Anyway, in the one I did I wore a church-lady hat and it started 'mardon me padam, is this pie occupewed?..." I could still do the whole thing. That is funny but I realize it is obviously true that kids today don't know what a talent show is. I suppose that's good. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed Yorkshire tea in the past when we lived in Indiana, so was very interested in the previous comment about the tea being especially blended to taste good in water with a lot of limestone. That perfectly describes the water in our area of Indiana...must be why it tasted good!
ReplyDeleteHa! Victor Borge has nothing on you! I'd love to see the talent show. Just found you yesterday on Instagram. I loved looking at all the cozy pictures of home and hearth. Has it been four years so soon? It is six years since we said goodbye for now to my mom. Miss her still and I know that you will always miss your mother, too.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love when such things happen . . . such a personal gift from our loving Father, finding those roses that bring back precious memories of your mother. Indeed, I was surprised to realize that it has been four years. It does not seem that long ago that the quiet on your blog meant that you were caring for her. May these memories be warm and comforting.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in college some of my friends knew a funny mixed-up version of Cinderella from memory and I always wished I could learn it. It was so much fun to hear them tell it, I know it must be twice as much fun to tell it!
