dog days

The heat seems relentless … large cracks line the hardened clay where grass has
died from the drought … and no end in sight.  I call these the "dog days of summer."
A day in the mountains brings some relief though the heat seems to have followed us.
A little ice cream sure helps.

  1. My garden sure could use some of that water! I'm looking after my flowers, but letting the Hostas go--between the deer (they're even coming in the front yard close up to the house to munch and probably sip from my little "pond") and the drought, they're not worth my effort to just save the leaves.

  2. Sweet Mosaic! The mountains sure do look inviting. It's raining here today and I'm pretty sure there's not a brown blade of grass to be seen. Hope you get a reprieve from the heat.

  3. We are the same here, Dotsie. We need rain. Our June and July were quite rainy, but August is proving to be just the opposite. ♥

  4. Good morning, it is hot and humid here too. I love the shot of the shoes lined up and the little ones waiting for the ice cream. Happy Monday, enjoy your week!

  5. We seem to have gone from spring to the "dog days" within a week's time. Thankfully, temperatures cool down at night and open windows are perfect. Love seeing the little shoes, those who wear them and the mountains.

    Best,
    Bonnie

  6. It is at this time of the summer that the longing for autumn grows keen!! Your mountain and water views appear refreshing. Ice cream is usually a good idea. :)

  7. Dog days for sure! We finally got a good soaking of rain but we are in a dry pattern again. The worst part of this weather this year are all the wild fires across Washington state...so sad.
Hope you get a little cool down or more ice cream! :)

  10. Hi Dotsie, You are so right about this heat -- whew!! I try hard not to wish my life away, but I think I'm ready for autumn. The forecast says we may get some rain here this week, how about for you? I was down your way on Saturday -- hubby and I made our second trip to the Ikea store. It was even warm inside the store, probably from so many bodies packed in there. ;) We got stuck in a traffic jam on I-77 coming home, so we got off the highway and took the back roads. So pretty! It's the first time we had driven through Cornelius and Davidson, and what pretty little towns they are.

I'm glad you got away to the mountains for a break; hopefully we'll all get some cooler temperatures soon! Have a great week!

    Hugs to you,

    Denise

  11. Where we are in MT today it is incredibly cool, almost fall like. No complaints from me. It has be a relatively comfortable summer for us, even with out travels. It was even cool at 86 in Western Kansas. Wishing you cooler days!!!

  13. We're having another bout of hot temperatures ourselves right now, I wouldn't survive with it for days though. Ice cream, or in my case frozen yogurt is definitely a help. ;-) Hope cooler temperatures arrive soon for you.
Look at that sweet little gal in her pink dress and matching crocs!
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday Dotsie.

  14. Hot and humid here too. But I'm not complaining, as winter will come too soon. Ice cream fixes anything, doesn't it? :)

  15. We don't usually get too much heat or humidity, but the last several days have been crazy. I am glad this is just an occasional thing.

  16. How nice to be able to take a trip to the mountains. We are cooking here, too, with heat and humidity. Trying to get outdoor work done early today.

We are big ice cream fans here too!

Sorry you're experiencing cracks in the ground, dying grass and heat.

  20. We have had rain rain and more rain and hardly been able to enjoy the Summer here in KY. So many obstacles as well going on. Love the lined up shoes, and yes ice cream helps the rainy days too ;)

  21. We need rain here on the west coast, too. Terrible losses from forest fires. Love the shot of the little shoes lined up. Lakes and ice cream are the way to cool off!
