Heart Party Part II

Part 2
For this tea party we used adult-size teacups and saucers.
Some of my most favorites, along with the teapot Little One's daddy
gave me for Mother's Day quite a few years ago.
And the tea this time was pretty hot and we learned how to sip every so slightly
to check how hot it is. They all did well.
Of course one of the most fun things about a tea party is the
act of placing sugar into the cup and stirring it.
At one tea party I had, the sugar bowl was completely emptied.
This time the bowl was not emptied, but the sugar was all wet and soggy.
Just stop and smile at that visual.
After they were finished we had a quick trip to my bedroom to open
my grandmother's cedar "hope" chest and have a look at my braid.
It seems to be something they always want to do,
if they've seen it before or heard about it..
Then for the wrap up of the party we read a story.
take note. This one, Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch, surprisingly
was on the shelf at our library. What I didn't realize was how
perfect it was for Valentine's Day. (I believe God
delights to put things like that together for us.)
So we ended with a wonderful story with a good lesson
about love and friendship. Then off they went to
run outside a bit in the wind and dropping temperatures.
Brrrrrr.
I googled the name of this book and found it online being read by
a familiar actor. You might want to listen to it yourself!

  1. I was surprised when your link did not take me to the place where I first learned of this book. And I have no idea where I did. Now my interest is piqued so must find the audio.

What a perfectly lovely tea party with learning guests. They'll be all set for a truly proper tea one of these days soon as you have taught them so much and allowed them some hot tea. I like the look of intent on the face of your granddaughter. She is very much present.

This reminds me of my giving the grandsons "a tea party" because they said that they wanted one. The youngest was most annoyed when I assigned him a tea cup because he wanted the "pretty" one. He assured me that boys like nice things, too. Anyway, he was not at all a fan of the tea, even if he had a sip and said, "Yummy," actually, more like "yummeeeeeee" with a shudder.

  4. Oh, what delight! I love that pic of your granddaughter! Your gifted tea pot is GORGEOUS- this is such a sweet thing, Podso!

I pray for the day of granddaughters - but I have been blessed with three tea-loving nieces, though the teens have hit and one must make an appointment six months in advance to have them over now it would seem. : - (

I, as like Vee, want to find that audio now. Thanks for the recommendation - a perfect ending to a most perfect tea party!

  5. Your tea table looks so pretty. I can just see the spoons of sugar being added to the tea. That would have been me 40 years ago when I started to drink tea. Plus milk. Now I enjoy it black. Now, about that braid in your hope chest. Will we get to see it too? :)

  22. Your table setting looks so pretty. I found the book being read on-line. It is a lovely story of the power of Love--just the act of giving it makes you FEEL loved! Thanks for sharing this. You peaked my interest about your braid? When did you cut it off and why? I used to be in awe of my aunt's long hair when I was a child. She always wore it in a french twist. She was married to a doctor and looked "polished" all the time.

  23. What a fun Valentine tale. Chuckled at the sugar story. That teapot is darling, and I too believe that God delights in giving his children good gifts, even surprises. 'God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.' - Piper. I'll find an N.T. Wright quote next. :-)
