For years I'd rise at dawn and head outside for several miles of fast walking. I haven't been able to do that the past few years because of the arthritis in my knees, so it was a special pleasure the other day when I grabbed my cane and headed outside for a walk. I needed to look down to watch my strides, but my eyes kept being drawn up to the deep blue sky and the beauty of the trees.
Fall is finally in full swing and the leaves have changed color and are dropping and dancing on their way to the ground. My rose colored sunglasses made the leaves even more vibrant in color as
I soaked in all their glory around me. Granted my steps were slow and the soreness
and feeling of weakness reminded me of my recent surgery, but I was walking
without the arthritis pain. It was just as amazing as I heard it would be.

I continue to make progress and now will go to outpatient therapy.
That will be a whole new game and probably new ways to experience pain.
But I know in the end it will be so worth it.

I'm glad to hear you're progressing in your recovery. Your street looks lovely. What a nice neighborhood to walk in. Our neighborhood consists of two (dead-end) streets, one of which climbs quite a hill! I used to walk it all the time, but after a while it was just too repetitive and boring to me (I've been here 33 years remember). To get anywhere else requires walking along a thoroughfare with no sidewalks. So I stick to the treadmill which would be even more boring if it weren't for the audiobooks I listen to.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are gorgeous! I have raked and blown so many leaves in the past few weeks but I still love autumn! Happy to hear you were able to get out and stroll along as well as capture the beautiful colors!
ReplyDeleteI love autumn in full "bloom" but also when the leaves begin to fall and crunch underfoot. And, while it isn't in the best interest of the environment, I miss the smell of burning leaves gathered by curbs around town. Glad to hear that you are becoming more and more ambulatory.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
After your therapy...you will be looking up again. Positive healing thoughts are coming from me.

Hurray for you! That is an encouraging milestone! What a beautiful day you had for your walk too!

That is wonderful news Dotsie! I'm happy for you that you aren't experiencing the arthritis pain now. I guess there is pain in the recuperation though but as you said, it's worth it. Your street is very pretty right now. Take care. Blessings. Pam
ReplyDeleteThrilled to hear of your ongoing progress! Out for a walk in such a lovely autumn-kissed neighborhood is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were able to get out and about.. my mama had the same thing and I'm on my way though I have more issues in my neck and back to add.. the photos are lovely indeed thank you for sharing. Hoping you get out more often.. with love Janice
ReplyDeleteWonderful news! I'm so glad the arthritis pain is gone and that your new knee is beginning to do what it's supposed to do. Enjoy the beautiful autumn. Here the leaves are just about all blown off the trees.
ReplyDeleteI had not heard about your surgery but hope you are healing well and will be back walking without struggling very soon. The pictures are lovely and it's been a long time since I visited and I have to say I love that apple header! Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow great that must have been to take a walk outside, enjoying the beautiful scenery, and without the pain of arthritis! Your rehab is coming along nicely, it sounds like! Soon, it will be white with snow! Enjoy it while you can! So happy you are getting out and about!!

So pleased for you Podso. That you can walk outside again and without pain. Nothing worse than arthritic pain.
ReplyDeleteThe trees are stunningly beautiful in all their Autumn hues.
Take care.. you will be running soon.
kind regards val xx
Well, look at you...out walking with that cane! You go, girl! Your photo are so lovely and yes, we have seen that bright blue sky around here too and those fall leaves just POP against it! I hope you get some great rehab and that you are soon better than new!
ReplyDeleteIf you're out for a walk, the knee must be learning the movements required. How nice to be able to walk without pain, even if it is slow and gratifying as you enjoy the colourful trees.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Glad you are on the mend. Keep that knee moving and you will be in great shape soon.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous photos and I'm really glad you're doing so well!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! It reminds me of my son's street, no sidewalks, like a road more so. We have old cracked sidewalks.
ReplyDeleteI'm elated to hear you are walking with the cane! How fast they seem to want to get you mobile! I admire you for your bravery, I have been a slug! The pain is now tolerable, it's the frustration and boredom of not being able to do things. If I'm busy, I long to relax and get engrossed in a book. If I have to have rest, I go bonkers. So silly!
Keep up the good work. Fingers crossed all goes smooth with PT.
Jane xx
PS...I know Blowing Rock will be a town we visit often and take guests to...just incredibly beautiful, especially the drive there.
ReplyDeleteFunniest line of this post..."Grabbed my cane." Never thought I'd hear you say that! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures of your street, Dotsie; I love older neighborhoods like this. The fall colors really are magnificent, aren't they? But wow, how about this cold weather?! Brrrr. Hang in there because it sounds like you're making great progress and I know you'll make it through your outpatient therapy, as well. So glad you can tell an improvement!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs,
Denise
So happy to hear you're able to be out and moving...and with different kind of pain, the kind that will heal and not grow worse! Praise the Lord!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, beautiful sights!
Glad you are doing better, Dotsie. The autumn color in your neighborhood is beautiful and it surely would help to lift one's spirits! Have a good week!
