Dish Symphony

We are talking about simple tablescaping, family dinners, conversations at the
table, and all such things at our next mentor meeting. Just for fun, I took some of
my (too) many dishes and made a variety of place settings the night
we mentors had our planning meeting. For inspiration, I suppose.
These dishes are all cheap or gotten at resale shops.
Except for these that were my mother's.
You may gather from these settings that I have soup on
my mind, and especially love blue and white dishes and transferware.
We hope to instill in our girls thoughts of tradition,
simple beauty, and honoring their guests by setting a pretty table.
At least we'll throw it out there!
Before I put it all away I took a picture.
Some of these plates I only have a couple of, and
I got them because, well, I could change out dishes often.
I try to set a pretty table for our meal each night; I know
the Gardener appreciates it, though it seems a rarity anymore.
Each plate is like a piece of art!

  1. I love the blue and white...any and all patterns. And I remember the pink flower. Isn't that a pink dogwood? Lovely! Very pretty dishes to make any meal special! Hugs!

  4. Hi Dotsie, As you often tell me, our homes (including the contents) are quite a bit alike. :) You probably already know that I have the Johnson Bros. Castle Dishes, too -- same color as yours. Also, my mom has a whole, big set of the Franciscan Desert Rose dishes, she's had them for years. Finally, your flatware looks an awful lot like mine! What is your pattern -- I'd love to know? All of your place settings look so pretty, and I think this is a terrific idea for your mentoring group!! A pretty table setting makes a home-cooked meal even more special.

Thanks for sharing, Dotsie! Are you enjoying this pretty weather today? I love it. :) Have a great weekend!

    Hugs,

    Denise

  5. You have some lovely dishes and it's fun to see them arranged in place settings like this. I bet you had fun, too. Setting a pretty table is creative, and tells the people who eat there that they are appreciated, I think. Soup is on the mind here, too. A pot of vegetable soup is simmering away as I type.

  13. Lovely way to set the table for your group. I'm fond of so many dishes. Love your mother's dishes. I have to figure out how many of my dishes I should move with me. Not easy...

  14. I love this, Dotsie and what a great way to use such a variety of beautiful dishes all at once. The floral centerpiece is a great addition too, mimicking the same lovely colors of all the various plates!

  17. You are a woman after my own heart for sure. I have the treat of living very close by Replacements LTD, so buying dishes at a good price has allowed me to have more dishes than I would ever need, yet it makes entertaining so much fun!
I need to read your past posts and find out about your mentoring group...
