I am the painter in the family.
But after painting more than 70 rooms, plus sheds,
garages, porches, shutters, doors, etc.,
I thoroughly enjoyed the luxury of sitting back while someone else
painted our kitchen and laundry room.
Photo: trying out the paint choice.
I didn't exactly sit back. It took a lot of work to empty
out a kitchen and put it back together.
I've always loved a yellow kitchen but since
everything needed painting, we decided to chose a different color.
It wasn't easy. Our kids said "neutral," and we agreed.
I went to the "Paint Whisperer" in town who is amazing.
This is the third time he has helped us choose the right paint.
In some light it's gray, other light it looks green, and sometimes blue.
I call it a mystery color and I (we) love it!

Your kitchen is very serene - I love it. That's a wonderful mystery color.
ReplyDeleteI love a yellow kitchen too (and that's what this one is) but I do like your grey/blue/green!
ReplyDeleteWhatever color it is, it looks lovely! It is reading pale blue to me, which goes well with your blue plates and complements your decorative dishes. I am so glad that you had help and didn't paint yourself.
ReplyDeleteI love how it looks. I too am the painter and now I don't like thinking about painting anything. Sad thing is that I have a few things that I still have to paint. It is better than replacing things though. Paint always makes things look better.
ReplyDeletePerfect choice - a variety of color to greet you in this bright room. Many years ago when I was in the hospital following the birth of our second son (you stayed in those days), the RG painted all the rooms of our new home. He then 'retired' from ever painting again so . . . I don't mind it if can just get started.
ReplyDeleteOh Dotsie, I just love your kitchen. It was pretty before but the new soft greenish tone is so soft and soothing. I do all of the painting pretty much too, and although it is a big undertaking, the final results are sooo worth it! I am about to tackle the hall bathroom but am planning to go with textured, paintable wall covering that looks like bead board. I am still a lover of wallpaper...yes I am....there, I said it! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your kitchen. Your mystery paint makes everything look brand new. Now, I want to know what the paint color is and who it is by!!!!!!!!!! ;) So nice to have a paint whisperer.
ReplyDeleteDotsie, your kitchen is looking very nice! I love the color. We recently had our home painted by painters and it was quite a luxury for us. But you are right, it's a lot of work, still. Our kitchen is that soft gray color that reads different with the changes in the light throughout the day. It's so nice to have everything clean and fresh. Enjoy your new kitchen. ♥
ReplyDeleteWhat a great turn-out! Homey yet elegant and the paint color is really nice .
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely color. Glad you could sit back and enjoy the results!
ReplyDeleteI love it too! I have white cabinets and black counter tops too. We painted the walls a slate blue and like it! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThe colour is so beautiful! I like it ♥

I like your mystery colour! I think getting someone in to paint would be a wonderful thing! It's still a lot of work, as you've said, but then - it's done without the cutting in and rolling and cleaning!
ReplyDeleteYay, I finally got to see your kitchen, Dotsie! It's sooo pretty; I love all the blue and white! I also spotted your little Amsterdam canal houses like mine. :)
ReplyDeleteMy yellow kitchen is still new to me, and I love it, but your new wall color is beautiful! Such a pretty color, and I can see how it would look different in different light. Fresh paint is just so cheerful, isn't it? Love your world map; I've been fascinated with maps for years.
Enjoy your new kitchen (and laundry room) walls, Dotsie! I'm glad you shared with us, and have a great day!
Hugs,
Denise
Your "new" kitchen looks fabulous! Your "paint whisperer" did a fine job with choosing the paint color. Love your map too! That makes for lots of conversation topics, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your fresh new look!!
Your kitchen looks beautiful, Dot! Not only the new paint color but everything. I was so surprised to hear you say how the color shifted from blue to green to gray. Thats exactly how the color of my kitchen cabinets were at the lake. It was really cool! it gave me a wider choice in choosing towels and curtains a rug. And it was really pretty.
ReplyDeleteYou sure did your share of painting---good for you for letting someone else do it this time! ;-D
Jane
I like the color and the row of pitchers above the window.
ReplyDeleteLove it!!! Yes, the grays do that, and I have to explain that to my clients. Funny how different lights bring out the green or the blue. One client said, "I want it to stay looking that it does right now...all the time!" Well that isn't possible and yet, that is also what I love about the grays. Enjoy...it is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is really sweet and I love the new paint colour you chose. It looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful - and so uplifting to have one's kitchen all fresh and clean like that. And you not completely tuckered from doing all the work!
ReplyDeleteYour new look is perfect! Beautiful from every angle especially the window view.
ReplyDeletelooks great...and I wonder it it was done when I was at your house and I didn't notice.
ReplyDeletePodso,
ReplyDeleteYou, dear friend. . .and the"paint whisperer" choose a gorgeous hue for your Kitchen!
I adore how the light can take a shade of paint and change it with the changing of the sun and shadows!
Fondly,
Pat
I love your color choice, too, Dotsie. It's nice to see more of your house so that I can envision where you are when I read your posts.
ReplyDeleteYour mystery paint color seems to go very well with your blue and white accent pieces.
ReplyDeleteDon't you love the help of a 'paint whisperer'? Mine is the drapery/blinds guy I've used for our three homes and his choices have never disappointed. I like the new colour in your kitchen and feel chameleon qualities are an asset. It also looks very cozy in your home.
ReplyDeleteWhatever color you call it, I love it! Soo pretty. Your whole kitchen looks warm and cozy. Enjoy!
