hanging out at my house

simple decorations
Fun to photograph.

A quick crochet experiment that turned out as I had hoped.

At our mentor meeting this month I showed our young women
some of the ornaments I've made through the years and we
guessed the decades. This is a favorite one, back when we were
painting wood ornaments like crazy.

And we made these two easy and fun new ones.

Two favorites that hang on our tree.
Holland and the world.

  1. Lovely! Your post makes me realize that I/we haven't done handmade ornaments in a very long time.

  2. Your mentor group sounds lovely. I used to make all sorts of ornaments. Now, most everything is crocheted. Great candle mat. :) Happy holidays!

  6. Those ornaments are very meaningful for your family. Trees should be a family history, shouldn't they? I love that "quick" crochet project. Very nice and perfectly Christmas.

  8. The cranberries remind me of stringing them, and popcorn for our tree at home Dotsie. The popcorn was hard to do and much of it was eaten. The wooden ornament is a trip down memory lane but it was fun and economical to make your own decorations back then. I don't imagine the young people today would want home made things on their trees but it could come back again as a trend.
I like the crocheted doily, very pretty and your still life shots are impressive!

  9. What a fun project for your group. Like you, we have decades of styles on our tree. So much history a Christmas tree can tell. ♥

  14. I do remember painting wooden ornaments for the Christmas tree!! A bit of frugality, a bit of creativity, a bit of 1980's trending. :) A Christmas tree, as other commenters have said, tells a story of the family it represents.

Your first collage is eye-catching. I also love the Delft ornament from Holland. I always enjoy hearing about your mentoring group!

  15. Don't our Christmas ornaments bring out the best of memories? And I like your simple decorations. No fancy glitz from the craft store.
