Tired but refreshed would be the way to describe how we feel after a week
in the Tennessee mountains with our entire extended family minus three.
Away from technology, surrounded by gorgeous views, and
with the ones you love the most … how can you get it much better?

When the kids were the age that their kids are now, our families vacationed every
year together. Now it was time to try it again. Including spouses, 26 descendants
from our parents gathered and together we made we made a wonderful memory.

Second cousins got to know each other and played together easily.
We hiked a lot and the youngest of the bunch kept up most of the time.

On one hike she was quite pleased
with her big stick and her "baby stick."
The only time she went on strike was when I said,
"Look, we're in the mountains!"
She stopped in her tracks, dropped her sticks
and with her lower lip out and tears approaching,
reached out her arms to be carried while
exclaiming, "We are not in the mountains."
What lovely surroundings for such a special family time. I've had many reunions in nearby mountains.

Lovely times with family are to be cherished, Dotsie. I love the mountain air and the beauty. Such a funny little one on strike! ♥
ReplyDeleteI would love a getaway like this with my family. Such a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet/funny story!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad your whole family minus one got to go away together. These are times to be cherished!

Your family vacation sounds wonderful. What sort of accommodations did you have? Right now we can still fit our immediate family into one rental house. We've never been close enough to the rest of our family to have your sort of vacation together. We often talked about having a family reunion somewhere mid-point, but it never happened. Now with kids having kids it would never work to get everyone's schedule to mesh.
ReplyDeleteMemories, indeed, you will cherish for a very long time. Wonderful pictures. I especially like the river falls. Have a grand week!
ReplyDeleteOh-oh...you've got a beach girl there! Family vacations must be a blast...haven't enjoyed one in many a year. I do know this, I have a second cousin whom I love like a sister. So glad that your family carried on the tradition minus only one...that is really saying something!
ReplyDeleteOh, how truly wonderful - what an amazing get away. And Tennesee is absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you, Podso!!
You Are Blessed, sweet friend. Love the 'not in the mountains comment'....so adorable. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea...to gather everyone for a shared vacation! Shared memories, old and new. And in such a beautiful setting (which was not in the mountains)! :D
ReplyDeleteI laughed at the "not in the mountains" comment. What goes through their little minds? How lovely to all get together in such a pretty setting.
ReplyDeleteWe had a family picnic this past weekend - 35 or so of us from my parents. It was to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Our families (two of our children and their spouses and children, plus us) took the ferry over. It was so lovely to be together, big and small, to chat and eat and laugh and celebrate God's faithfulness.
What a wonderful time of refreshing with your family! Your littlest grand baby's statement made me smile. Enjoy the week.
ReplyDeleteI think this is wonderful, Dot...so glad all of your family had a special time. It's hard these days to even get together for a Sunday dinner much less a getaway like this. I applaud you and your family in knowing how to be grateful for times like this. And wow...the pictures of the mountains are beautiful!!!
