"Her plants, her books ... her writing desk ... were all within reach ... she could scarcely see an object in that room which had not an interesting remembrance connected with it."
(Jane Austen)
This is what I enjoy about my home.
How about you?
Oh yes indeed. I love having things around that my mother, mother-in-law and their mothers enjoyed. They make me happy. I don't like a stark sterile modern environment at all. Your little corner is perfect!
Such a lovely quote and sentiment. I once had a room that made me think of that line and have tried to recreate the feeling here, without a lot of success.
Podso, The very reason I coveted my MoMa's Oak Secretary, dear friend. Each time I open the pull down desk and see each pigeon hole, I feel her presence!!! Thank you for posting this, dear friend!!! Fondly, Pat P.S. The photo is similar to my Sister's room in our childhood home. In her dormer window, she had a desk with chair. Antoher memory!!!
The way I feel for sure. Just today I was thinking about some of my things and wondering if someone in the family is going to want, and love them as I have. Judith
Exactly...
ReplyDeleteYes! And I tend to decorate with things that we use all the time as well. Very satisfying!

ReplyDeleteSame here! That's why I have such a hard time getting rid of things.
ReplyDeleteBest,

ReplyDeleteOur house is tiny so everything is within reach or vision.
ReplyDeleteI love the William Morris quote, "Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."
I just have to convince my husband that when he removes his hat and sets it any old place, it does not become art.
Hi love. Thinking of you today, just because. And I do believe that's your sweet noon in your upstairs guest room. :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes. What a lovely quotation.

Yes, the "interesting remembrances" are what makes a house a home...that personal touch!
ReplyDeleteI so hope it is that way. I want it to be.
ReplyDeleteDottie
Oh yes, for sure! Association brings such bonding, doesn't it.
ReplyDeleteYes, every piece has it's story, and I like it that way.
ReplyDeleteThe way I feel for sure. Just today I was thinking about some of my things and wondering if someone in the family is going to want, and love them as I have.

I love the photo and the simpleness (is that a word?!) of the desk and decor. "Enjoy the Simple Things" is one of my favorite sayings.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely enjoy this about my home and others'. I love that my children even say...in mom's house..everything has a meaning.
ReplyDeleteSo right, so simply riiight.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I thought I was a follower all this time and wasn't. Well I fixed that today, forgive me missing so many wonderful posts.
As time allows I am going back and catching up - I just love your blog.
God bless.
yes. yes. and, yes. =) Don't know how I missed this earlier.
ReplyDeleteReally the only things worth hanging on to are those fraught with history and remembrances.
