a taste of camp

The Gardener continues to improve. And a few days before Easter
the grandchildren arrived for "Camp G&G," as I
decided to call it, hoping to give it a positive spin as their parents
were very far away. We kept busy and had lots of fun. And
this grandma hit the sack each night the minute their lights were out.
Here are some highlights:
Eggs of course. This year I got "fake ones"
and used their interesting method of coloring.
Just drops of coloring in a baggie, insert egg and squish around.
The kids loved it, wanting to add colors to see what happened.
They were beautiful.
Puzzles, games, blocks, old videos, stories, playing with
neighbors … lots of good fun.
Outdoor work too, supervised by Grandpa who had graduated
from walker to a cane. A good friend dropped off three plants in
three Easter buckets for the kids to plant in our garden! A great idea.
The same thoughtful friend came back later with bug shaped
cakes she had made, along with icing ready for coloring and decorating.
Such fun, and a delicious desert.
The final day this exhausted Grandma succumbed to
lunch from McDs (which these kids probably
never experienced before.) I have to say the food was
healthy and the happy meal prize--smurf houses--provided
entertainment for the rest of the day.
Smurfs? "Grandma, how do you know about them?"

  1. Well who knew that knowing those Smurfs was going to prove to be a boon with the grandchildren in future years? 🦋 All I remember about them is that they were/are blue. Grands are certainly active! They are keeping you healthy and fit. So glad that your husband is feeling stronger and has moved on from the walker.

  2. I understand falling asleep when they do, Dotsie! What beautiful eggs the children colored. I'm not familiar with that method, but it sounds much neater. I'm glad to hear your husband is improving. ♥

  4. That's great news that your husband continues to improve. Mine too...and it's such a blessing. Love those sweet little grandkids. They really make the holidays fun. (I just did my review for The Boys on the Boat in Goodreads. I gave it 5 stars!) Hugs, Diane

  5. Oh, I feel your exhaustion, Dotsie!! LOL! But, oh, what fun! Yes, the Smurfs are back. LOL! So glad to see Gary graduating to the cane and I know he is glad, too! Evan is scheduled for surgery on his back May 1. Not as extensive, but sure looking hopefully to pain and numbness relief (insurance company is the cause of waiting until May 1... I asked if we could do it today!;)) Your eggs are beautiful!! The girls dyed eggs with us and the boys joined us later. "Lots of action" as my brother would say. LOL! I thought those knockout roses were supposed to be VERY hardy. Hmmmm. Get some rest, sweet friend! blessings ~ tanna

  6. Smurfs? Whoever would have thought they'd make such a come back. I remember them well, lol. Yes, after a few days with 3 of mine I hear you on being tired...they are SOO busy. Glad your hubby is improving!

  8. So much fun! The eggs ARE beautiful. Are they just the plastic ones that open up? What color were they to begin with? Glad the Gardener is progressing well in his healing. And you DO have a very thoughtful neighbor.

  9. I remember those days when I'd babysit our grandson at 4 and his 2 year old twin sisters. Come bed time I'd lay flat on my back like a soldier and never move. lol Busy kids never get bored and it looks like G and G camp was successful.
Prayers for continued healing for your hubby.

  12. I am relieved to hear that your husband is improving and gaining strength. I continue to pray for him, that the Lord will grant him full recovery.

Camp G & G looks like a blast! I love the photo of your three grands, faces full of excitement! Keeping young ones fed and happy and busy is no easy task. The rewards are great, but yes, hitting the sack as soon as lights are out sounds about right. :)

  13. So glad that your husband continues to grow stronger. Grands are exhausting - there's no two ways about it! How much fun they have at Camp G&G, though, and what wonderful memories you are creating.

I think your neighbor deserves two big hugs- what a sweetheart for the plants and adorable cakes. Brilliant idea.

Glad The Gardner is feeling better. Prayers for you all.

    Big hugs.

  16. I dream of the day when I can entertain grands. At least it's no longer a mere dream with our first little one due in 11 weeks.

Our next door neighbors call their visits Camp Nana Papa. I have to come up with my grandmother name soon.

  17. I can imagine how tired you are keeping up with the grands when you are not used to it! Raising kids is really for young people with lots of energy, lol! You did a lot of very fun things, and what a sweet and thoughtful friend you have, to bring by things to help entertain the children! And smurfs are back? I did not know that, I'm really out of touch, lol!

  18. I love how those eggs turned out! That would be very tiresome to have 3 little grands for a week. I have never had the experience of our grandsons on their own for more than a few hours and that is tiring enough! Have a great week!

  19. I don't have grandchildren yet, and I'm afraid I'll be old and exhausted by the time I do -- haha! Need to keep exercising so I'll be in shape! But sounds like so much fun. And such happy memories.
