I surprised myself by bringing out fall decorations before
I flipped the calendar page to September.
I had been still embracing summer.
Maybe it was just one too many hot days, or an extra ounce of humidity
that made me yearn for change,
Having the rich colors of fall around helped to remember that
cooler weather is coming … I think.
The fireplace seems to be the center pallet for each new season.
I love using old books and pulling out an heirloom vase.
The photo doesn't do justice to its rich turquoise color.
A 50th anniversary present from my grandparents to their parents.
I'd say it's got to be 80 years old at least.
We're actually dropping down into the 70s this week.
Now that's a welcome change in the air.
Time for some soup!
From the feel of things around here (50 degrees at the moment), fall has arrived a bit early. I'm ready to bring out the rich colors of the season as soon as I remember where I stashed them in the move!! The vase if lovely.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Pretty..and we are feeling it a little here. I love fall.
ReplyDeleteWell, if that is not just beautiful!!! I really do not have very many seasonal decorations, other than Christmas. I do enjoy them, but have no place to store them and so I always enjoy the shares of others. I really like what you have done, it just makes the room pop with happy! Happy Week to you!
ReplyDeleteYou beat me, Dotsie!! Other than a bowl of apples on my kitchen table, I have no autumn decorations out yet. This week...
ReplyDeleteYour mantle looks lovely!! Rich autumn colors, a bit of family history, books, and candlelight...you have it all! Perfect.
Enjoy the cooler weather! Ahhhh...soup...
Yes, we're thinking Autumn has came early as well; a brisk 40 degrees this morning. Your mantle looks wonderful. Be Blessed!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice and cool here this morning...41! And I love decorating with the colors of Fall. You have some beautiful things to enjoy! Hugs from across the way, Diane
ReplyDeleteGood morning, your mantle and fall decorations are pretty. I like the sign and message and the pretty sunflower plate. Happy Monday, have a great new week ahead!
ReplyDeleteI made some veggie soup yesterday, but it's still going to be in the 90s this week in Texas. Hard to think of Autumn.
ReplyDeleteYour mantle is most welcoming to Autumn.
ReplyDeleteThe vase is beautiful I can see. How lovely to have something with so much family history!
Books seem to take on a more comforting persona in Autumn days - thinking of cosy afternoons and evenings reading by the fireside.

Welcome fabulous colours of Autumn!
ReplyDeleteI love summer and would embrace it year round, but I also love fires in the fireplace and Steve's yummy soups.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely fall.
Dotsie, your mantel looks like a great prelude to Autumn. It is finally here for us as of yesterday. Your antique vase looks beautiful with the flowers of fall--what a treasure. The cooler weather is so welcome! I agree with you about the soup as I made a pot yesterday with a meaty ham bone from the freezer. ♥
ReplyDeleteI am ready for Fall as well. We've been quite humid and hot this summer without a lot of rain. Your fall decor looks lovely. And, I love your Jan Karon quote. I love getting the mail as well and I love Jan Karon.
ReplyDeleteYour mantel looks beautiful dressed for fall and makes me wish I had a mantel to decorate with the seasons. I guess my hutch will do though. It's comfort food season which I love. Have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteWe got home from Vermont yesterday where we'd had temperatures in the 90's the first few days, but last night I slept under our comforter! It has put me in the mood to decorate for Autumn. Your decorating looks lovely with your fireplace.
ReplyDeleteYour Fall decor is very pretty! Thanks for sharing it with us. I have not thought about decorating here, but m enjoying the cooler temps and lower humidity.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
Simple yet pleasing autumn decor Dotsie, the best part - the sign for blessings.
ReplyDeleteWell, it was under 50F this morning when I went to walk the dog and I've already made a pot of chili. :-)
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday.
Beautiful! I love the colors and that vase! What a precious heirloom!

Your autumn mantel is a harmony of color and shapes. The family vase is such a special piece. Things are cooling down here, too. Stew is in the slow cooker for tonight's dinner. Enjoy the cooler weather.
ReplyDeleteGreat colors - love love love the collages. Enjoy the change in the weather - I think I'll go turn the furnace up a tad.

ReplyDeletevery pretty!
ReplyDeleteWell that is a lovely fall mantle! (mantel?) I NEVER remember, and not only that, I don't remember if it is Mickey Mantle or...wait...I think that's right. Anyway, we have a beautiful, vigorous breeze here today and I have the windows open. I'm hanging onto every shred of summer I can get. The only pumpkin decorating for me is/are the pumpkins and squash on my garden floor. I'm wondering if I can bring one in and make butternut squash soup pretty soon. But it must be a colder day, cold enough so that I don't mind heating up the oven to make a hearty brown bread to go with it. I so enjoyed your warm and beautiful photos. Enjoy our last days of summer. - Judy
ReplyDeleteOh I really like your mantle, Dotsie...I really like the simplicity and the colors in that vase is beautiful. I got my decorations out over the weekend when it was still hot and muggy too! I think I was subconsciously trying to trip the barometer into thinking it was fall already...and that cool front sure took it's sweet time getting here. Bring it on, is all I gotta say!
ReplyDeleteStill daytime heat here. You have put me in the mood to bring fall in. The colors at higher elevations are starting to turn, bit here it is jumpstart not and dry. Your mantle looks warm and inviting. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Autumn post. Very homy and warm! Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous vase with a wonderful provenance. I'd love to see its true colors. It must complemement the oranges and sunflower yellows of the season. Your mantel is lovely. We are still in summer mode...near 90s this week...times of the day did reach 90. Supposed to be in the high 70s next. I am not complaining after that long winter and that brutal spring.
ReplyDeletePodso,
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Autumn mantel, dear friend!!!
I adore the heirloom vintage vase!!!
Love how you've used the books for height variances!!!
Here's wishing you Autumnal weather to accompany your amazing Autumnal decor!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Hi Dotsie,
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with your fall mantle decor! I love that fireplace surround and would love to do something like that with our fireplace. That vintage vase is really spectacular; I love family heirlooms, don't you? :)
I know exactly what you mean about too many hot days. This weekend just about did it for me; I'm definitely ready for cooler temps.! Have a great September week, my friend!
